Ruckus on Holi: Special security arrangements were made in Shahjahanpur for Holi and Friday prayers. Authorities had heightened vigilance, especially during the Lat Sahab procession. Mosques along the route were covered with tarpaulins, and the Muslim community had also extended the time for prayers in advance.

Lat Sahab procession began under heavy security

Despite these precautions, when the Lat Sahab procession began under heavy security, miscreants caused chaos at several places. The most significant violent incidents erupted simultaneously at Kherni Bagh along with Bade Lat Sahab and Ghantaghar. During the procession at Kherni Bagh which falls under Sadar Bazaar police station territory the law enforcement officials faced stone attacks from miscreants. In response, the police conducted a counter lathi-charge, leading to several injuries.

RAF squad also carried out a lathi-charge at Ghantaghar

The RAF squad also carried out a lathi-charge at Ghantaghar, where a clash broke out between the procession participants and the police. The miscreants threw bricks and stones at the police, escalating the situation. The police worked hard to ensure the procession moved forward, chasing and beating several people.

Miscreants Throw Shoes and Slippers at Police

Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between two groups at the Kacha Katra Mod in the Chowk Kotwali area. During this, the police stood by as silent spectators. As the procession moved from Panki Chauraha towards Ghantaghar, the police and RAF tried to control the crowd, but were unsuccessful. As soon as the RAF attempted to manage the situation, people started throwing shoes, slippers, and stones. In response, the RAF used their lathis to chase away several miscreants and pushed the procession forward. After this incident, the police in Shahjahanpur increased security and initiated an investigation.
